Ashley Potter and I had already worked together on SOHO SQUARE and CARMEN when, quite coincidentally, we were separately approached by Mute Records, Ash for the album artwork (below) and me for the music video, giving us a perfect opportunity to progress the mixed-media techniques from those earlier projects to a purely live action setting.
I also came across this alternative edit (that I’d quite forgotten about), featuring Andy Bell as an omniscient observer, lurking in the shadows. As I remember, Vince Clarke wasn’t interested in appearing in the video, which is a shame.
